Business groups and legislators have been meeting with Governor
Schwarzenegger to improve the business climate in California at the same
time the budget is adopted.
These groups and the Inland Empire Chamber Legislative Alliance feel that
the best way for the state to climb out of the budget nightmare is to
encourage commerce and job growth.
Raising taxes to balance the budget will not work.
Raising the cost of doing business in California also will not work.
It has
been proposed that an economic stimulus package be included with the budget
vote. That package includes a
flexible workweek option for employers, reduced government red tape for
building permits, extended deadlines for retrofitting heavy-duty equipment
and other business-friendly policy changes.
We
encourage you to call your local legislator’s office (State or Assembly, or
both) and let them know if you are having a difficult time running your
business and keeping your head afloat in this economy.
As we all know, almost all of the funding for your local services
(police, fire, libraries etc.) comes from the generation of sales tax in
your local city. As more
assembly and senate bills are introduced to impede the growth and success of
businesses, then the tax dollars generated by those businesses also
diminishes. With this vicious
cycle the funding for your community services will suffer as well.
Business is the “Golden Goose” in California and the sales tax generated
pays for a good deal of what gets done in California.
Ask you legislator why they are trying to kill the “Golden Goose”.
The IECLA is taking it to the next level in defeating more job killer
bills that will not only hurt productivity of small business but the
environment as well. The organization will be partnering with our local
cities to utilize the power of lobbyists in Sacramento to help support the
fight for business. This alliance will continue to fight for the flexible
workweek that would be beneficial not only to the environment but every
family in California, as well as any
additional bills that would add additional costs of doing business in
California. Our legislators in Sacramento need to understand that, in this
troubling economy, this is not the time to increase the cost of doing
business.
The Inland Empire Chamber Legislative Alliance (www.iecla.org) represents the following Chambers of Commerce: Chino
Valley, Claremont, Fontana, Montclair, Ontario, Rialto and Upland.
